Let’s Get Digital North Tyneside

Many older people embraced technology during the coronavirus pandemic to assist with things like socialising, shopping and renewing their prescriptions. Age UK’s analysis has found that 2 million over-75s still don’t have the access or ability to use technology. Many were left behind and as a result left out and in North Tyneside we hope to change that with Age UK North Tyneside’s Digital Champions.

Getting online in later life can be daunting but the Digital Champions programme recruits and trains Digital Champion volunteers to support older people to make the most of the digital world we now all live in.

We all know that technology can be scary at any age but we’d like to help demystify it to enable everyone, regardless of age to participate safely online.

Digital Champions can work alongside customers in the safety of their own homes or at local, free workshops or even by telephone if preferred. Age UK North Tyneside has produced and provides simple to follow ‘how to’ guides for customers to use with their volunteer or independently.

Customers who don’t currently have access to equipment of their own can loan a device for free from Age UK North Tyneside and with a free SIM card they can be online in no time at all.

Simple things like ordering a shop online, keeping in touch with friends and family, online banking or using apps can suddenly become accessible with the right support.

To be eligible to participate in this scheme customers must be aged 50 plus years and reside in North Tyneside. If you’d like to consider volunteering as a Digital Champion with Age UK North Tyneside full training and support is provided. Tel: 0191 2877011

They say every day is a school day, why not start to learn new skills with Age UK North Tyneside in 2022.
