Estimates suggest there are more than 32,000 unclaimed Child Trust Fund accounts in the North East and the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority is backing the youth-led Youth Trust Fund (YTF) campaign to help young people in the North East of England recover their lost trust funds.

Young people born in the UK between 1st September 2002 and 2nd January 2011 (currently aged 15-23 years), had a Child Trust Fund opened when they were born, with £250 deposited by the Government.

Similarly, Care Experienced young people who have been in care for at least 12 consecutive months after 2nd January 2011 will have a Junior ISA account.

Both types of account can only be claimed by the young person, and they can access the money after they turn 18. But if they don’t know where to start, this can be overwhelming for many.

As part of the campaign, young people from NE Youth and Youth Focus North East, in partnership with the Share Foundation, have created an easy-to-use website where young people can get the information they need and find their lost funds: sharefound.org/ytf
